From the Warsaw Ghetto To Key Biscayne: Past and Present Join us for a very special evening with author and Key Biscayne resident, Dr. Stephen Felton. His mother, Eva Wasserman, recorded her memoirs in I Shall Lead You Through the Nights, a book published by her two children, Mina and Stephen. Born in the Warsaw Ghetto in 1942, he and his mother were the only survivors of a large family, who were smuggled out of the ghetto just prior to the uprising in 1943. His story is not only one of unspeakable tragedy and atrocity, but of enduring hope and freedom. On the morning of October 7, 2023, Bar Kuperstein was working as a security guard at the Nova festival when Hamas attacked. Instead of running, he stayed to help rescue people. He was still there when Hamas took him into Gaza. For 738 days, the world had almost no news of him. No one knew where he was or what was happening to him. Here in Key Biscayne, we had one connection to Bar: his tefillin. His mother Julie had sent them with someone traveling to Miami, so that others could use them in his honor while he was in captivity. Dozens of men in our community came to put them on and pray for him. It was one of the most powerful moments our community has shared. Now Bar is coming to Key Biscayne to tell his story in his own words.
